Lots of Sanding

I sanded the windshield formers into their proper contours. That wasn't quite enough sanding, so I cut out the landing gear doors and sanded the hell out of them until they had some fetching tapered edges.

Rework Complete - New Pictures

The instrument panel covers are finally done and sanded, and the windshield formers are glued on and awaiting final contouring.

Here's a detail shot of the space behind the backrest, looking down into the fuselage:

Rework Almost Complete

As I wrote last night, I'm reworking the instrument panel top and side covers so they actually fit. With much relief, I finished them tonight - all of the non-square cuts, all of the 45 degree bevels, all of the headaches. I attached two of the three pieces to the fuselage and clamped them down tight. Tomorrow night I'll glue the third piece in place and start sanding the transitions between the pieces.

Reworking the Instrument Panel Covers

Back in December, I had some problems with the fit of the instrument panel top and side covers. Tonight I finally got around to reworking these pieces. The top cover is done; hopefully I'll get to the side covers in the next day or two.

The digital camera has finally been replaced, so I hope to get some updated pictures up here soon.

"New" Tool in the Shop

I dropped off the train table at my friend's home today. His son wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but he seemed to understand that toys went on top of it.
While there, I borrowed his benchtop table saw because I've got some upcoming cuts to make that would be difficult without one. I put it to good use tonight, making the cowl former and the control spacers. The spacers are 10" long, but only 3/4" wide, with an 82 degree bevel on one edge. With the table saw, it was a piece of cake.

Every Airplane Needs Wings

Started working on the wings: cut them out, drilled pilot holes, and rounded-over the edges.

On a related note, the digital camera is officially in need of replacing. I hope to order a new one in the next day or two, so some updated pictures of this project should be returning soon.
